Choosing Kitchen Sinks To Suit Any Style
Whether you’re fitting a new kitchen or simply replacing a few units, the kitchen sink is one essential that needs to be visually attractive as well as functionally appealing. We at Wickes DIY have a range of kitchen sinks that will transform your kitchen.
When looking at kitchen sinks, you first need to consider how much the sink will be used. Even if you have a dish-washer (and a large number of households do, these days) you’ll still need to wash some things by hand and that includes bulky items like roasting tins. Then there’s style. If you’re a large family, your requirements are going to be different to the smaller household but that doesn’t mean you can’t have trendy designer styling. The range of kitchen sinks today has expanded enormously; stylish single, double and 1 ½ sinks are available in a range of fittings and materials.
Some kitchen design studios really do seem to supply their products to people who only ever dine out – some of their kitchen sinks are totally impractical however, you can rest assured that, with us at Wickes DIY, your sink will be functional as well as beautiful to look at.
Not so long ago, people were throwing out their old-fashioned butler sinks and installing modern chrome in their place. Today, “retro” is all the rage, and delightful white ceramic kitchen sinks nestle quite nicely next to the latest Asterite and minimalist chrome designs; we at Wickes DIY sell farmhouse, Butler and Belfast sinks just like the ones granny used to use. However, they’ve also been redesigned for the 21st century, sharing many of the features of minimalist designs. Ceramic can be as retro or modernist as you like.
Ceramic sinks are scratch and shock-resistant, and will withstand most temperatures, making them an excellent alternative to chrome – what’s more, they don’t cost any more. Just don’t drop your favourite glassware or crockery into the unfilled sink.
Stainless steel kitchen sinks fell out of favour for a while, replaced by trendy new materials like Asterite and Corian. These are still very much in vogue, although if you go for an unusual look to match your décor, remember it can look out-of-character if you then decide to redecorate. A lot of them have chic, circular bowls and the advantage of being soft but hardwearing as they are made from granite or silicon embedded in resin. Naturally, they are heavy and, for obvious reasons, susceptible to heat damage – although only if you set down a red-hot pan straight from the oven.
Today, chrome is back in vogue again, aided by chic designs that mean rectangular is no longer the only option. Chrome kitchen sinks come in a range of designs, including extra-deep double sinks for serious chefs, and chic circular designs that mix style with functionality. Circular is the latest thing in kitchen sinks, and single and twin versions are available in a host of materials, including Roc black metallic – the latest designer “must have”, and available from us at Wickes DIY.
