Why is it difficult to wash oil or grease off plastic?
When I wash metal cutlery and ceramic crockery the oil and grease comes off easily.
With plastic containers I find it almost impossible.
Why is this?
And what can be done about it?
Wash your plastics first and use Dawn. It’s the best dish soap out there to remove grease from dishes. I always wash the plastics in the dishwasher with Cascade. But when I do handwash plastics I always wash them first, before the greasy pots and pans. And I let them sit in the hot soapy water for a few minutes to allow the dish soap to break down the grease.
Dawn is also great for that grease spot on a shirt. Put a small drop on the shirt and let it sit for about 10 minutes and then put it in the washer. Also try adding a tablespoon of white distilled vinegar to help the oil lifting boosting power of the dish soap.

Housework Is So Boring
I know that time is tight and you do not want to be a home cleaner all of your spare time but it has to be done. We can look at things that should be done at different intervals, daily, weekly, monthly and annually.
On a daily basis there are the beds to be made as it is always at night nice to fall into a bed that is neat and tidy. After breakfast, before you go out you should do the washing up of the crockery and cutlery you used. It is a health hazard to leave this all day not done. Similarly more to be washed after your evening meal. If you have a dishwasher, this bit is easy.
Make sure that you thoroughly clean your work surfaces and tables that you eat off each time that you use them Bacteria love to inhabit these areas if there is even a scrap of food for them – and they do not eat much. The kitchen and toilet definitely need to be cleaned daily.
Before you go to bed just do a general tidy up of any rubbish lying around. It will seem much harder work next morning when you are rushing to get off to work.
Each week you should clean the floors and use your Dyson DC 25 vacuum cleaner to hoover the carpets of all the rooms that you use on a regular basis. This vacuuming should be done before the dusting as it does produce clouds of dust.
Other dust build up even when we are out all day so you will need to use a duster on all the shelves, television, computer and other similar things. Start at the highest level and work downwards.
Every month it is a good idea to clean the windows, inside and out, get a long handled brush and get rid of all the cobwebs that have collected and wax any floors that need doing. You can also wash down the woodwork and do not forget to clean the light switches.
On an annual basis you should get your curtains and carpets professionally cleaned. Steam cleaning is as good a way as any. They will last you a lot longer if they are looked after like this regularly. Clean out your cupboards and get rid of all the stuff that went past its sell by date six months ago.
That should keep your home neat and tidy but, more than that, healthy for your family to live in.

do jewish communities have their own what i would call internal support systems?
by this i mean, if someone in a jewish community needs something they will be able to ask someone within the community who will either lend them what they want or put them in touch with someone who can provide what they want. eg if someone needs extra cutlery they will borrow their friends or go to a service within the community who lends out crockery
also if a jewish community needs something do they often make internal arrangements amongst themselves to solve the problem and keep the arrangements and end result to themselves
my reason for asking is i recently saw some houses being built that were not put on the open market but occupied by members of the local jewish community. is it possible that the jewish community needed extra housing so they made arrangements amongst themselves to build the houses and keep them to themselves rather than putting them on the open market
im not sure about the question part – the housing development – but it is definitely true that the jewish community is a close-knit one that is always there for each other. i speak especially for my own community. we are much more than lending cutlery. we host out-of-town cousins of the neighbor we barely know, cook up a storm so we can invite extra guests, and if need be move the kids to the couch so the guests get the beds. we are practically a UPS system, with people constantly sending along packages for friends or relatives in various parts of the globe. we cook for our sick neighbors, bring their kids over to our house so they can rest, and arrange visits to the hospital. we carpool, exchange recipes, and shop for each other. we also have “gemachs” which are loaning stores ,like you mentioned, where ppl donate their services or items and you rent it out for relatively cheap. and this is everything that is on the top of my head right now.
one of the most awesome things about being part of an orthodox jewish community is the closeness and the way you feel that everyone’s got your back. in your case – if the community is one that can afford to put up an entire development for themselves, i see it entirely plausible that that is what they did.
