budget wedding – can it be done on less than £5000?
Me and my partner have talked about what we want when we tie the knot just a small wedding and a inexpensive wedding at that. We have about £5000 saved up at the moment ($10000). This is what i think we can do on a small budget but still have a classy day.
Wedding ceremony at my childhood church where i was baptized as we know the pastor. We would then have the reception in the church hall. It is only small but we only will be having about 60 guests, max 70. We would hire the chairs, chair covers, crockery, cutlery etc which is likely to cost £900 and then buy the drinks. We would either cater ourselves or get a cheap local caterer to do the food. does this sound a good idea to get a cheap wedding. Likely to be winter time too. Parents will be buying me my dress so that isn’t included in the budget.
any experiences on self catering a wedding or what you did on a tight budget would be great. thanks
There’s a great book called _Bridal Bargains_ which you might be able to get at the library that helped me a whole lot.
I’d suggest holding the wedding at about 2:00 and then the reception at 2:30ish. This way, you could get away with serving less food.
I’d suggest looking into having the reception at a local hotel. Sometimes, with the cost of everything altogether, it’s really about the same as renting everything and catering yourself.
I’d suggest doing foods that are more ordinary than exotic: broccoli over asparagus, chicken over prime rib, ect.
Also, we made a cd for our wedding reception and someone from the church played each song at the appropriate time.
We made wedding programs by making photocopies onto nice paper at kinkos and then decorating the programs.
I wouldn’t suggest making your own invitations, as it turned out to be a ton of work.
Also, to save even more money on food you could have just a light afternoon dessert reception if you wanted. If this is your choice, I would suggest saying so on the programs, “light dessert reception to follow ceremony in church hall” so that people know what to expect.
Anyway, it’ll be wonderful, whatever you choose to do.
